Salesian Camps are fun
camps, where the leaders consciously treat the campers with genuine
care, gentleness and kindness. In Salesian camps, as in all Salesian
works, the followers of Don Bosco treat youth with a fine blend of
Reason, Religion and Kindness. By their friendly PRESENCE, the Salesian
of Don Bosco and their lay helpers PREVENT their young charges from
getting into dangerous and harmful situations. This method, emphasized
by Don Bosco, is called the Preventive Method. This method is Pro-active
instead of being re-active and punitive.
Using Don Bosco's method,
the Salesian, by his presence, protects youth from making serious mistakes,
rather than waiting for youth to do wrong and then bringing penalties
to bear. Lastly, Salesian Camps are run by youth for youth, with support
from more senior and experienced Salesian priests, Brothers, Sisters
and lay Cooperators. Don Bosco encouraged youth and lay people to work
with him and with his religious men and women to draw youth to God.
